Our recommendation is to go for a simple 6" single-tier vanilla cake with a frothy whipped or butter frosting, easily procured from a local bakery. Fancy cakes with heavy fondant as the top layer might seem attractive but prove to be a challenge for those little hands, compared to a light, whipped frosting. Talk with your baker to verify there are no hidden supports in the cake!
